This is an interview with Sri Lankan Chan Wanduragala. She was an organizer of a November 23, 2005 fundraising event at Osaka Castle for survivors of the recent Pakistani Kashmir Earthquake. Osaka Jogakuin College teachers, students and others cooperated with a Japanese NGO called the Asia Volunteer Center (AVC). An AVC team recently visited Balakot, a village a few kilometers from the epicenter. The Osaka Castle event drew 128 participants and pledges of contributions from yet others. Organizers hope to raise about US$5,000 for the earthquake victims as winter approaches. Besides listening to this interview on the cross-cultural and humanitarian issues involved, for more information see this page at the Asia Volunteer Center Website.
