Human Rights of Foreigners in Japan

edit Steve McCarty 2005-10-28 09:17 WST

An earlier Japancasting podcast on July 25th, 2005 with Prof. Yuriko Moto had asked: “Is there pervasive Racism or Xenophobia in Japan?” Definitions of those terms along with prejudice and discrimination were provided here. She cited many forms of discrimination that are pervasive in Japan.

This podcast is an interview with Cathy Warden, a lecturer at Osaka Jogakuin College who was a lawyer in the U.S. before coming to Japan. I ask about her background, how she personally has been treated in Japan, and then ask her about the legal issues surrounding the human rights of foreigners in Japan. Her answers are surprising.

Incidentally, one of the first refereed journal articles about podcasting, iPods and iTunes for education is reprinted online with colorful illustrations: ”Spoken Internet to go: Popularization through Podcasting.”
